Work in Progress

For about a year and a half, I’ve been writing for a local Knoxville magazine called Cityview. Eventually, I will put that material–which is well over 100,000 words by now, I think–on this site somehow, either via link or upload. The difficulty in linking it is that the publisher uses a flipbook for each issue’s online version, and whereas flipbooks likely make it difficult for content scrapers, they also make direct linking cumbersome.

The best result of this writing–aside from being paid to write–has been developing confidence about my productivity and ability to write on almost any subject. My weakness as a writer has always been a desire to polish fine gems, rather than simply get the job done. Deadlines and a low pay scale are good countermeasures to such a tendency.

So that’s another reason for this blog: to up my output even more, especially regarding personal projects that matter to me aside from simply paying the bills.

Two such projects currently are a play I’ve been reworking for something like two years and a second play I want to enter in a contest next month. Plotting the second is one of my three key tasks for today.
